Google Chat

Team messaging for Google Workspace users

Google Chat is a work-focused messaging app for direct conversations, group discussions, and shared team spaces. It suits businesses, project groups, and organisations that already use Gmail, Drive, Docs, or other Google Workspace services and want chat to sit alongside those tools.

Conversations, spaces, and shared work

Use direct messages for one-to-one communication, or create Spaces for ongoing team topics and projects. Conversations can include shared files and links from Google Drive, while connections with Docs and other Workspace tools help keep discussion close to the work itself. Google Chat also works with Google Meet, making it easier to move from messages to a call when a written exchange is not enough.

Useful at a larger scale

The app is built for teams that need more than a basic group chat. Search helps users return to older messages and shared information, while Workspace integrations can bring services such as Jira, GitHub, and PagerDuty into team conversations. Some accounts may also have access to Gemini-powered functions, including conversation summaries and assistance with finding key details. Availability depends on the relevant Workspace plan.

What users say

Google Chat has a 4.45 out of 5 rating from more than 331,000 reviews, with 50,000,000+ installs. Those figures reflect broad use across work and education settings, although the app is most useful when a team has already settled into Google’s wider set of collaboration tools. New users may need time to understand how Spaces and threaded discussions are organised.
